Even though your Washer & Dryer continually clean your clothes they too can become dirty and unsanitary. The washer, just like your toilet bowl can build up a layer on side in-side wall. Which can be home to MOLD, bacteria, and dirt. Your dryer just like your vacuum can gather lint, hair, and dust around the filter and when it has too much can leak onto your laundry room.
But don’t worry you can clean your washer in just 5 easy steps and your dryer in just 5 easy steps as well. Here is how:
Your Washing Machine:
Step 1:
Clean the exposed surface and the lid with a damp sponge.
Step 2:
A lot of washers also contain a lint trap, simply pull it out and rise under running water.
Step 3:
The soap, bleach, and fabric softener containers over many uses can produce a build up. If your containers are removable you can easily wash and rinse with warm water, if they are not removable you can use a damp sponge and and old tooth brush for tight to reach places.
Tip: If you wipe these containers after every load you won’t have any build up!
Step 4:
Remove the mold/mildew, unpleasant smells, discoloration, and stubborn build up by running your washer empty with 3 cups of white vinegar on the hottest water setting your machine has.
Step 5:
If you home has hard water you may need more vinegar to remove the mineral deposits found along the inside of your washer. For every 20 loads of laundry run an empty hot water cycle with 1 gallon of white vinegar to prevent build up.
These steps together should keep your machine running better and giving you a better clean to your clothes! Your washer may even last longer by reducing the build up.
Your Dryer Machine:
Step 1:
Use your vacuum to gently remove the lint that is still on the filter left over after you remove the majority of the lint. With the lint filter removed use a duster or your vacuum again to remove the lint from the lint trap (where the filter slides into).
Tip: Cleaning the lint trap simply by hand after every load will help your dryer dry clothes faster and reduces the risk of the dryer catching on fire.
Step 2:
Vacuum inside your dryer including the seal around the door, then wipe down with a slightly damp cloth.
Tip: Cleaning inside the dryer will allow better air circulation and less heat loss.
Step 3:
Behind the dryer you will find the lint duct, simply remove it and vacuum out the lint collected around the seal.
Step 4:
The lint duct feeds to an exterior vent, simply check to make sure this vent is free from blocking any airflow. If it needs to be cleaned your vacuum again is a great tool.
Tip: Anything around this vent has the chance to become covered in lint and exposed to hot air.
Step 5:
Sometimes ink, dye, and crayon can collect on the drum of the dryer. Simply spray the inside of the dryer with an all purpose cleaner and wipe it up with a damp cloth.
Tip: if the color is still there, try running a few old light colored towels on high for 30 minutes and the color on the inside of the dryer will be rubbed off by the towel.
